Welcome to Driver Education!
The state of Minnesota requires anyone under the age of 18 wishing to obtain a driver’s license to complete an approved course in driver education. The course must include a minimum of 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. The classroom portion includes lecture, discussion, guest speakers, films, written work from textbooks and written tests. The behind-the-wheel portion allows students to practice driving on public streets and highways with an instructor in a dual-control (two brake) car.

TriDistrict Community Education offers Driver Education courses, including classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, during the school year and summer at Simley High School, South St. Paul High School and Henry Sibley High School. All courses are taught by a licensed instructor. The cost is $375. Payments can be made in full at the time of registration or in installments of $175 at the beginning of the class and $200 at the end of the 30 hours prior to the student receiving the ‘blue card.’
