|The state of Minnesota requires anyone under the age of 18 wishing to obtain a driver’s license to complete an approved course in driver education. The course must include a minimum of 30 hours of classroom instruction and six hours of behind-the-wheel instruction. The classroom portion includes lecture, discussion, guest speakers, films, written work from textbooks and written tests. The behind-the-wheel portion allows students to practice driving on public streets and highways with an instructor in a dual-control (two brake) car.
TriDistrict Community Education, in partnership with A+ Driving, offers Driver Education courses, including classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction, during the school year and summer at Simley High School, South St. Paul High School and Henry Sibley High School. All courses are taught by licensed instructors. The cost is $375. Payments can be made in full at the time of registration or in installments of $225 at the beginning of the class and $150 a week before the last classroom date, prior to the student receiving the a course completion card.
