District 197 Early Childhood Screening

Early Childhood Screening is a free service of the School District for children between the ages of three and five and is best completed at age 3. The State of Minnesota requires that all children be screened before entering kindergarten. Children are also required to be screened within 90 days of entering preschool.
During screening, a nurse checks a child's vision, hearing and speech as well as cognitive, social/emotional and muscle development. Immunization records and general health and nutrition practices are also reviewed. Screening helps ensure that children are ready for school success and allows parents to request information on the District’s Early Learning Program, parenting resources and other community services.

Screening appointments are held during the school year, Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays. There will  also be limited screening hours during the summer. All appointments will be held at The Early Learning and Family Resource Center, 1970 Christensen Ave. West St. Paul, MN 55118.  If you receive District mailings, you will be notified after your child turns three with information. If you do not receive District mailings and your child is age three, please call 651-403-8363 to schedule an appointment.

Thank You!
